The Lumo Light Festival organised by the City of Oulu will illuminate the city on November 22–24, 2024. This year the event will spread over the city centre and the Hupisaaret City Park.

This year’s main installation will be displayed at the City Hall. Oulu City Hall has reopened after a lengthy and thorough renovation, and late November is the perfect time to celebrate this with an unprecedented multimedia light installation.

Projected on the walls of the City Hall, “Dialogue” will be created by multidisciplinary artist Niko Tiainen who is rapidly building an international career. The thematic starting point for the work is the festival’s overarching theme of dialogue. The installation takes on a multidimensional meaning, combining interactivity, spatial light, laser, immersive soundscape and video mapping to create a holistic, multidisciplinary and spatial piece of art.

In the newest section of Rotuaari pedestrian street (between Saaristonkatu and Albertinkatu), the installation ”Under Pressure”, a series of eight active figures by Slovakian artist Pavol Truben, will be created in collaboration with Oulun Liikekeskus ry. The work will stay on display until 1 December.

The full programme of Lumo Light Festival will be published in early November.

The organisers of the event are confident that the people of Oulu will embrace the event in large numbers again this year. Lumo Light Festival is the biggest free event in Oulu during the dark part of the year.
