The Lumo Light Festival, organised by the City of Oulu, will once again light up the city from November 21 to 23. Now in its 13th year, Lumo brings joy and light to the darkest time of the year. The programme for the Lumo Light Festival has now been published on the Lumo website. The festival is open from Friday to Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
There are 16 works on the Lumo art trail, as well as a supporting programme throughout Oulu. This year’s programme has an exceptionally international flavour, with a total of 10 works created by artists from different parts of Europe. In addition to Finland, artists are coming from France, Italy, Belgium, Catalonia, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Latvia.
In addition to the city centre grid and Hupisaaret City Park, there are works in Lammassaari, Linnansaari, Raatinsaari, and Pikisaari islands. The works can also be viewed from different angles from the pedestrian and bicycle bridges around the estuary.
The art trail ends in the courtyard of the Pikisaari Wool Factory, where a work created in collaboration with the Frozen People x Lumo workshop will be projected onto the façade of the Old Wool Factory. The content of the work has been created by emerging artists from Oulu.
Inside Oulu Cathedral, there is a work by Immanuel Pax from Hämeenlinna called Aika palapeli (Time Puzzle). The work invites viewers to reflect on life, space, and the finiteness of time. The images, hand-painted on glass plates, will be projected onto the interior walls, arched ceilings, and dome of the cathedral using high-powered analogue projectors.
This year’s traditional collaborative work with Oulu schools is Black Snow by Tiina Vehkaperä from Oulu. The work will be on display at Valve Cultural Centre from the Lumo Light Festival until the Oulu2026 Opening Festival on 16–18 January 2026, when it will expand to Franzén Park.
Located near the city centre, Lammassaari is an area that lies dormant in the everyday life of Oulu residents but will come to life in Lumo with the help of two works. In Italian Lennowski’s work Dreamscape, digital paintings rise from the darkness and invite the viewer into a dreamlike illuminated space. The Sparknado fire show offers three thrilling moments each evening, combining different forms of fire art. The work is created by Oulu-based Tuluxxia.
This year, the Lumo art trail will also feature stalls run by Oulu-based clubs and companies, where visitors can buy hot drinks and snacks.
