About the artwork

The Galloping Horse sculpture explores the movement of the gallop, paying homage to the pioneers of early motion studies, Étienne-Jules Marey and Eadweard Muybridge.

The animated sculpture of the galloping horse compels us to reflect on how deeply movement defines us — whether riding a horse, imitating its motion in a child’s play, or simply through our own perception.

Just 18 LED lights form the motion of the horse. It’s impossible not to see its gallop. Without shape, colour, or material, the horse emerges from our perception of light and movement — intangible, yet powerfully present.

About the artist

The artist Rémi Brun has created many other sculptures that depict different kinds of movement — from Golfer’s Swing and Footballer Striking a Goal to Loopy Lou, a light sculpture of his daughter skipping rope, and to Giant, striding forward with effort against strong storm winds. The variety is vast, and the works are always exciting and unique.
