Abstract explores the illusion of the passage of time and the concepts of relativity through light, sound and movement. The installation consists of 90 moving pixels that travel vertically from ground level up to a height of five metres.

The repeating sequence of light, sound and movement turns time into a kind of vertical dimension along which the pixels travel. The work invites the viewer to consider whether time truly flows, or whether we simply experience different moments one after another.

Maxime Houot is a French artist whose practice combines sound, light, technology and hands-on making. His background in applied physics informs his interest in time, relativity and the limits of perception. His works are produced by Grenoble-based Collectif Coin, an artistic laboratory working primarily with light, sound and the body.
