Luminous Beings

As darkness falls over Oulu, imaginary creatures of light appear, in which the familiar features of northern nature merge into new, previously unseen species. A reindeer’s antlers may branch out into lichen, fish scales may grow into something entirely different, and familiar shapes are transformed into strange combinations in the light.

The ‘Luminous Beings’ are creatures of the night, revealed by the light only for a moment. Spanning seven different locations, the installation invites you to wander through the city and examine the creatures up close: which familiar animal, plant, or other forms of northern nature can you spot in them?

Perhaps not all the Luminous Beings have been discovered yet. Spot the strange creatures and guess which is which.
