Return of Memories

The Return of Memories concludes Janne Ahola’s space trilogy, which began in 2021 and has had all its parts projected onto the façade of Oulu Cathedral. In the first part, The Traveller set off into the unknown, and in 2023 he delved ever deeper into the layers of his own understanding.

Now, years later, distance has lost its meaning and what initially felt like an adventure has become life itself. The conclusion of the trilogy crystallises around the idea of journey and destination: perhaps the purpose of setting out was to remind us that, in the end, the destination does not mean everything; rather, the journey is everything.

Helsinki-based designer and video artist Janne Ahola works primarily with video projection. Tommi Toivonen is responsible for the sound design and composition.

In the final performance of the evening, Return of Memories is presented as part of the complete trilogy.
